Anthony Parker Sage - Salvia 'Anthony Parker'
Plants often come in more than one size. Please see the dropdown box below for available sizesSalvia ‘Anthony Parker’
Anthony Parker Sage
is one of the most rewarding of all the salvias suitable for hotter areas, and it is a “must have” in the garden.
Firstly, it is particularly hardy in the hotter and drier parts of the year.
Blooming for months with beautiful blue-purple spires through summer, autumn and into winter.
While the handsome grey/green foliage remains spic and span through all the heat.
Secondly, I could never be without ‘Anthony Parker’ for company.
Because the native nectar eating birds adore it, and I adore the birds in the garden.
GROWING DETAILS:

Width: Rounded, dense, fountain shaped shrub 70cm to 1.8 metres wide approx.
Bloom Season: From summer, through autumn and into winter.
March to June approx.
Fragrance: Foliage is slightly aromatic, and flowers have little scent.
Cut flowers: Yes. Salvia ‘Anthony Parker’ is suitable for cut flowers.
Position: Thrives in Part Shade to Full Sun, though it can tolerate a range of positions. Suits coastal, hot, or dry gardens, and can also tolerate sub-tropical summer humidity.
Water: Water wise. Drought resistant once established.
Frost: Medium frost tolerance to approx. -10C. Will only need overhead shelter in very hard frost areas.
Soil: Tolerates a wide range of soils – including acid, alkaline and neutral pH. But soil must always be well drained. Particularly suited to sandy soils and coastal positions, as well as good garden loams. Resents boggy conditions.
Growth: Evergreen, neat, arching, shrubby perennial. Quick growing for an instant effect.
Container: Hardy & easy in a large pot.
Care & Maintenance: Easy care, low maintenance.
Pests & Diseases: Rarely troubled by any pests or diseases.
Pruning: Can be pruned back by 1/2 in early spring, if you wish to shape it, but not essential. And you can also remove old stems back to the ground in early spring to promote even more flowers and fresh foliage. But really – it won’t mind if you forget to prune.
Fertilizer: Do not over-fertilize. Quality fertilizer, such as Powerfeed, can be applied sparingly in spring. This plant is not a heavy feeder.
We recommend to water in with Seasol at planting, and regularly after to help protect against frost, wind and heat. >br>
Bees, Birds & Pollinators: Flowers are very attractive to bees, butterflies, honey eating native birds, and other beneficial pollinators. Prolific autumn blooms mean an abundant nectar supply for bees and birds, when other flowers are often scarce.
Rabbits & Deer Resistance: Unlikely to be bothered by either rabbits or deer, as they dislike the taste of the essential oils in the foliage.
Pet Friendly: Not known to cause ill effects for pets.
Herbal & History: The American garden designer Frances Parker discovered this chance seedling in her garden in South Carolina in 1994. She knew a good thing when she saw it, and so named it after her grandson like a good Grandma. She believed it to be a hybrid between Salvia ‘Midnight Blue’ and Salvia elegans - Pineapple Sage. Frances felt it had inherited some excellent attributes from both parents, including stunning flower colour and handsome grey-green foliage.
