AVENSROSE PINK
Geum ‘Tempo Rose’
Geum ‘Tempo Rose’ is adorable.
With a host of blushing creamy-rose double flowers all ruffled and frilly like bouquets of roses.
Blooms open from lovely burgundy buds to also display burgundy stamens.
While the rose colouring shades from creamy edges to a full blush of rose-pink in the centres.
Delightfully pretty new release
‘Tempo Rose’ is a recent release, newly bred for enhanced qualities, and is a very welcome addition to the delightful Geum family.
Blushing ruffles of creamy-rose-pink
Because new ‘Tempo Rose’ bears so many more blooms than other older Geums.
Thus creating a spectacular display.
With the flock of flowers held very showily above a low, dense clump of decorative foliage, rather like a Strawberry plant.
Eye-catching groundcover
So it makes an eye-grabbing groundcover when massed planted.
And a great companion underplanting for roses and shrubs in pink, white or red shades.
Flocks of flowers for longer
Geum ‘Tempo Rose’ also has a more prolonged and earlier blooming period than many other Geums.
With constant flocks of flowers from earlier in spring and onwards through into summer.
A haircut to remove spent stems at the end of the first blooming will then promote repeat flower stems through summer.
Bouquets for a vase
Geum ‘Tempo Rose’ blooms on long, clean stems. And the flowers last and hold their colour particularly well in a vase.
So, it has gained many fans amongst keen florists as a cut flower.
Easy to grow
It is also a longer-lived, permanent fixture in the garden.
With an enhanced lifespan beyond earlier varieties, and a much longer blooming period.
Plus a more adaptable constitution.
Making Geum ‘Tempo Rose’ particularly hardy and easy to grow compared to older varieties.
And able to cope with a wider range of garden conditions, including a greater tolerance to heat and sun.
However, it dislikes full shade and heavy, sodden soil.
Frost hardy
Geum ‘Tempo Rose’ is robustly frost hardy and able to withstand hard frosts down to -15 to -20C, depending on conditions.
It is also largely free from any pest or disease attacks.
However, it does not take kindly to prolonged summer humidity.
Bees are adoring fans, but rabbits are not
The creamy-rose flowers have pretty centres of prominent burgundy stamens, making them very appealing to bees, butterflies and a host of beneficial pollinating insects.
Though rabbits and deer are not particularly attracted.
New is better
This beautiful new Geum was released in 2021 as the result of Tempo breeding programme to create longer blooming, hardier Geums. It has been a huge success with gardeners.
Geum ‘Tempo Rose’ is an evergreen perennial with flowers held well above the foliage at approx. 60cm. High.
It makes a 30cm. Wide evergreen clump of decorative foliage which sits neatly low to the ground.
GROWING: Geum 'Tempo Rose’
Height with flowers: Approx. 60cm. High with a host of large, ruffled creamy-rose flowers.
Width: Approx. 30cm. Wide decorative, evergreen foliage rosette of scalloped leaves.
Position: Part Shade; Dappled Sun and Shade; or Morning Sun are all very suitable. Geum certainly enjoy protection from the hot afternoon sun in all but the coolest districts. Though Geum ‘Tempo Rose’ has been recently bred to be more adaptable and hardy than older Geum varieties.
Growth: Hardy and long-lived perennial clump.
Soil: Geums thrive in soils that have been boosted with plenty of compost. Soil pH from acid to alkaline lime is acceptable to these easygoing little charmers.
Frost: Geums are very frost hardy. Withstanding frost down to at least -15C. depending on conditions.
Water: Geums do not need a lot of water, asking for only average, normal garden watering. But they do dislike drying out for long periods, so they respond well to regular water in hot weather.
Very useful in garden, pots & vases
Pots: Geum ‘Tempo Rose’ makes a lovely, decorative pot specimen. And is highly recommended as a container plant because of an enhanced blooming period, and neat growth. It is pretty all year round with either flower or foliage.
Cut Flowers: Geum ‘Tempo Rose’ provides excellent cut flowers for vases.
Bees & Birds: Bees and butterflies love foraging among the flowers. A long and repeat blooming period is a big help to our pollinator friends.
Easy care & low maintenance
Care & Maintenance: Very easy low maintenance. An optional tidy after each flowering is all that is needed.
Fertilizer: Quality fertilizer, such as Powerfeed, can be applied in spring and autumn.
We recommend to water in with Seasol at planting. Then follow up with Seasol foliar feeds to strengthen plant growth, health and resistance.
Pests & Diseases: Rarely troubled by pests or diseases.
Deer & Rabbit resistant: While not completely immune, Geum plants are low on the menu selection for rabbits and deer because of the downy foliage.
Origin: Geum are widespread across the continents in the northern hemisphere, including Europe, North America and Asia. This testifies to the hardiness and adaptability of the Geum family. However Geum ‘Tempo Rose’ is a recent release especially bred for improved garden qualities and longer blooming.
