Geum 'Banana Daiquiri'
RUFFLED YELLOW AVENS
Pretty Geum ‘Banana Daiquiri’ is a welcome recent release with improved qualities over older Geum varieties.
New is not always better – but with Geum ‘Banana Daiquiri’ - it is.
Pretty ruffles of lemon-yellow
Because ‘Banana Daiquiri’ has larger blooms and prettily ruffled petals of clear lemon-yellow like a perfectly ripe banana.
Blooms are held on longer, clean, strong stems. Making ‘Banana Daiquiri’ particularly appealing as a cut flower.
With the flock of flowers held very showily above a low, dense clump of decorative foliage rather like a Strawberry plant.
Flocks of flowers for longer
Geum ‘Banana Daiquiri’ also has a more prolonged blooming period with constant flocks of flowers from mid-spring onwards through into early summer.
A haircut to remove spent stems at the end of blooming will then promote repeat flower stems.
Easy to grow
It is also a longer-lived, permanent fixture in the garden.
With an enhanced lifespan beyond earlier varieties and a more adaptable constitution.
Making it particularly hardy and easy to grow and able to cope with most garden conditions.
Except full shade and heavy, sodden soil.
Frost hardy
Geum ‘Banana Daiquiri’ is robustly frost hardy and able to withstand hard frosts down to -15 to -20C, depending on conditions.
It is also largely free from any pest or disease attacks.
However, it does not take kindly to prolonged summer humidity.
Bees love it but rabbits do not
The lemon-yellow flowers have pretty centres of prominent stamens, making them very appealing to bees, butterflies and a host of beneficial pollinating insects.
Though rabbits and deer are not particularly attracted to it.
New is better
This beautiful new Geum is the result of an intensive 21st century breeding programme in Illinois U.S.A. with the aim of enhanced garden worthiness amongst the much-loved Geum family.
Geum ‘Banana Daiquiri’ is an evergreen perennial with flowers held well above the foliage at approx. 45cm. High.

Frost: Geums are very frost hardy. Withstanding frost down to at least -15C. depending on conditions.
Water: Geums do not need a lot of water, asking for only average, normal garden watering. But they do dislike drying out for long periods, so they respond well to regular water in hot weather.

We recommend to water in with Seasol at planting. Then follow up with Seasol foliar feeds to strengthen plant growth, health and resistance.
Pests & Diseases: Rarely troubled by pests or diseases.
Deer & Rabbit resistant: While not completely immune, Geum are low on the menu selection for rabbits and deer because of the downy foliage.
