Chrysanthemum x morifolium 'Youpi Pink'
‘Youpi Pink’ bears mounds of dainty, raspberry pink classic Chrysanthemum blooms.
Garden Mums are bred to be balls of flower in the autumn, just in time for Mother’s Day, but easy to grow in the open garden.
They are compact growers, need no stakes, and just cover themselves with dainty flowers.
Garden Mums are weather hardy and make wonderful cut flowers for Mother’s Day vases and bouquets.
Garden Mums are recent releases, specially bred to be easy growing and trouble free.
So, they are largely pest and disease free, and can tolerate more humidity than older varieties.
Plant Garden Mums in full sun, though they will also tolerate a little shade for part of the day. And they prefer well drained soil.
‘Youpi Pink’ forms a neat, rounded plant 45cm. High approx. in flower x 40cm. Wide approx.
So it also makes an excellent container plant to bring to the fore in autumn.
If you shear ‘Youpi Pink’ back by 1/3 after the first crop of flowers, it will produce a second blooming again later in autumn.

GROWING: Chrysanthemum x morifolium 'Youpi Pink'
Height with flowers: Massed mound of flowers to approx. 45cm. high.
Width: Neat foliage clump to a diameter of approximately 40cm.
Position: Best in full sun, though it can tolerate a little shade for part of the day.
Soil: Chrysanthemums are very unfussy, providing the soil is well drained. They can tolerate a wide variety of soils from sandy to clay, and a variety of pH conditions from acid to alkaline.
Frost: Very frost hardy, even in hard frosts to at least -15C or lower, depending on conditions.
Growth: Hardy and long-lived perennial clump.
Cut flowers: Chrysanthemums are ultimate cut flowers with a long vase life.
Care & Maintenance: Extremely low maintenance if given their preferred conditions. An annual cut back of the spent flower stems after the long blooming season is all that is needed.
Fertilizer: Quality fertilizer, such as Powerfeed, can be applied in spring and autumn.
We recommend to water in with Seasol at planting.
Deer & Rabbit resistant: Both rabbits and deer tend to ignore Chrysanthemum foliage, and dislike the flavour.

Herbal uses: Chrysanthemums have a long history of herbal and culinary uses in eastern cultures.
The Chrysanthemum is traditionally believed to possess the power of life, and to contribute to and symbolize longevity.
Roots were boiled to make headache remedies; fresh foliage tips and flower petals were eaten in salads, and this is still a flavour treat; while older leaves were brewed to make a potent drink.
Chrysanthemum is now becoming a more popular salad ingredient in the west too.
History: Chrysanthemums have been treasured in China for many centuries. Chrysanthemum flowers are clearly depicted on pottery shards from at least seventeen centuries ago.
By the 8th century Chrysanthemums had arrived in Japan, where they were also treasured, pampered, bred and developed into extraordinary forms. They became the symbol of happiness as well as the crest of the Imperial Japanese family.
Chrysanthemums for Mother’s Day
In Australia Chrysanthemums are the traditional bouquet to present on Mother’s Day. They are of course called “Mums”, and they bloom at exactly the right time each year.
But make sure you get the right colour.
In the language of flowers - Pink chrysanthemums denote honest love; red chrysanthemums symbolize motherly love and gratitude; while white chrysanthemums convey honesty and loyalty.
