Lavandula angustifolia ‘Bee’
The Larkman family are proud to have bred and developed this beautiful Lavender.
And the bees love it too – for exceptionally long flower spikes, full of the pure, sweet perfume of lavender.
‘Bee’ is an English Lavender. With a very high and pure oil content.
So, the fragrance is superb from both flowers and foliage.
And it is perfect for the home garden. Because it forms a low, rounded, compact, evergreen shrub.
Plus it blooms it’s head off, much to the pleasure of the bees.
Lavandula angustifolia ‘Bee’ thrives in full sun.
It is a water-wise plant, and prefers not to be over-watered.
In fact it performs better for flowers, perfume and compact growth if it is grown a little on the lean and mean side with regard to both water and fertilizer.
Hardy in frost, dry, heat, and copes in poor soil.
And well recognized as a drought tolerant plant.
Lavandula angustifolia ‘Bee’ is an ideal choice for a lavender hedge, because of its compact growth, abundant blooming, and elegant grey foliage. Which makes a good contrast or background to other green foliage and flowers of all colours.
GROWING: Lavandula angustifolia ‘Bee’
Height with flowers: 75cm. High approx.
Width: 75cm. Wide. approx. Making a rounded, compact bush both in and out of flower.
Bloom Season: Blooms for approx. three months from early summer.
Fragrance: Superb because both the flowers, stems and foliage contain large amounts of lavender oil with a purity of scent.
Cut flowers: Lavandula angustifolia ‘Bee’ provides excellent cut flowers with lovely scent and rich colour.
Position: Full sun is best. Lavandula angustifolia is also well able to cope with windy, exposed sites, and coastal gardens.
Water: Water-wise. Because it has a low water requirement, and can cope with some periods of dry between deeper watering.
Frost: Tolerates frosts to approx. -5C. depending on position and region
Soil: Lavandula angustifolia thrives in a wide range of soils, from sandy to good garden loam. It is also tolerant of lime soils. However Lavandula angustifolia resents heavy or water-logged soil.
Growth: Rounded evergreen shrub with grey foliage, and flowers held well above on strong stems.
Care & Maintenance: Easy care, low maintenance.
Pests & Diseases: Rarely troubled by pests or diseases.
Pruning: An annual hard prune after flowering maintains good shape and promotes more flowers. Cut wood back to where you Can see the lowest growth of leaves, but do not cut into old bare wood.
Fertilizer: Do not over-fertilize. Quality fertilizer, such as Powerfeed, can be applied sparingly in spring. This plant is not a heavy feeder.
We recommend to water in with Seasol at planting, and regularly after to help protect against frost, wind and heat.
Container: Hardy & easy in a pot.
Bees, Birds & Pollinators: Bees and other useful pollinating insects adore the nectar rich flowers of Lavandula angustifolia. So it makes a very useful hedge or tub specimen near the veggie patch or fruit trees.
Rabbits & Deer Resistance: Rabbits and deer are not attracted to eat Lavender because of the high aromatic oil content. They dislike the taste.

Herbal & Culinary Uses: Lavandula angustifolia ‘Bee’ is a particularly good Lavender to grow for all round use.
