Rhipsalis elliptica
PADDLE LEAF RHIPSALIS
Rhipsalis elliptica is a stunner for decorative foliage.
Because it forms chains of jointed, paddle shaped, elliptical stems year-round. Which all cascade down in a trailing fountain shape.
So, the Paddle Leaf Rhipsalis is well worth growing just for the foliage.
But it also delivers charming rings of creamy white starry blooms, borne all around the rims of the paddle “leaves” during late winter and early spring.
Unlike many members of the family, this Paddle Leaf Rhipsalis becomes even more attractive when struck by the sun. With direct sun the paddle leaves (actually flattened stems) will colour up to vivid shades of copper and scarlet.
Or you can keep it in the shade where it will remain rich, deep green.
The Paddle Leaf Rhipsalis makes a stunning hanging basket for indoors, on a sheltered porch, or a sheltered place outdoors.
It is not frost hardy, so keep your Rhipsalis in a protected location.
And keep it consistently moist but not wet through the summer, while keeping it slightly drier in the winter.
Rhipsalis elliptica revels in summer humidity, so it really appreciates being misted from a sprayer during hot or dry weather.
Quality fertilizer, such as Powerfeed, can be applied in spring and autumn.
We recommend to water in with Seasol at planting. Then follow up with Seasol foliar feeds to strengthen plant growth, health and resistance.
A splendid specimen for an eye-catching hanging basket or decorative indoor container.
